Abstract
Pyridines and pyrimidines are effective bioactive compounds that have crucial effects and endowed with several pharmacological potencies. This category of heterocyclic compounds is common in nucleic acids and finds diverse applications in drug discovery and development.
Research in the pharmaceutical chemistry of pyridine and pyrimidine derivatives has become an active field, since several pyridine and pyrimidine-based compounds have been extensively used as clinical drugs with high therapeutic effectiveness. Most of the FDA approved drugs incorporate a pyridine or pyrimidine core structure. Novel synthetic strategies were furnished, utilizing highly reactive reagents. Thus, new trends of pyridine & pyrimidine based compounds were synthesized using a direct straightforward approaches. The in vitro anti-proliferative activities of most of the novel compounds were selected and evaluated on the NCI-60 cell line panel. The antifungal and antibacterial activities of the compounds were also estimated. Various derivatives of the synthesized pyrimidine analogues were indicated to possess promising broad spectrum activities.
